If you do not abide by the ancestral law, you tacitly ask for your own punishment. —(Maladome Somé, Of Water and the Spirit)
Do we in the Western world know what the ancestral law actually is? Do we even have a clue? And, in what ways have the ancestors perhaps been trying to impart this knowledge, this wisdom—and we haven’t been listening?
Since the dawn of progress, of modern civilization—let’s say, since the 1500’s—man has continued to place himself above natural law, and above those things of which he cannot see. Science has created a form of belief that states, essentially, that if it cannot be scientifically observed and, thus, proven, it is not valid—and doesn’t exist. So, therefore, anything that relates to the ancestors, to Spirit, certainly cannot be seen, proven, or validated. It doesn’t exist.
From what I’ve read, the indigenous cultures around the world laugh at this nonsense. The Aborigines of Australia know about the white man’s refusal to honor spirit, and they know it is unhealthy. Somé and his Dagara peoples of West Africa personally know of this inability of the Western world to live within the confines of Spirit. And, those of us in the North American continent certainly know about the Native Americans and how they were forewarned of the white man and his follies.
Is science and rationalism really providing a service to mankind if it denies Spirit? Are our modern-day ills a result of our refusal to honor the ancestors and the invisible beings that inhabit this planet with us? Are our illnesses a result of our inability to listen to the ancestors? As it was proclaimed in a 20th century movie, “The Gods Must Be Angry!”
We deny ourselves of our own truth. We refuse to acknowledge a world that is within us, even though we walk the streets proclaiming belief in the man known as Jesus Christ and his words, “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you!” The ancestors, the spirits, our own timeless wisdom, are all contained in this world that is right here, within us, and all around us. The world around us is alive, filled with wisdom and intelligence, and we deny its existence, in a way: we “project” our own intelligence into the world around us, instead of the world around us “projecting” its intelligence into us. That’s how us “moderns” look at things.
We must renounce our marriage to our way of looking at the world that denies Spirit and denies the ancestors. We are each carrying the burden of this denial, and it is in our cells, our blood, our bones, and our breath. We exit within this same space as the invisible beings that support us, yet we say they don’t exist, and our insolence is creating our own suffering. Our future depends on reestablishing a relationship with the ancestors. They are calling us, and if we don’t answer the call soon, their punishment will only grow stronger.

So have you noticed your own connection to the ancestors, and are you recognizing this as part of our life? Do you notice this "unspoken" connection, and if so, what's it like for you? I imagine there's a lot of people who have been subtly "nudged" into this reality. It sounds like Dare' is a powerful opportunity to be in the presence of people like Deena who accept this as part of reality. Sounds awesome! Thanks, Liora. Blessings, ge

Hi, Gregg, actually I haven't made a conscious connection to the Ancestors, yet! At this point on my journey of Life, awareness that not only indigenous but White People can have a connection to Ancestors has been an intellectual revelation, but I haven't "felt" it yet. At this time, I'm watching and learning from Deena and others. Spirit Guides have told me that I have a "line" of people wanting to "talk" to me, some embodied, some not, some Ancestors, some medicine people and Shamans, but my "awareness" is still too limited to allow "them" access. In time, they tell me, in time, and then they laugh and joke about "Time" because it is a human illusion!( At least I've got Guides with a sense of humor!)
Thanks again for all of your wonderful writings! I am really enjoying them, and am usually awe-struck as to some of the synchronicity of what you are writing about and some of what I am experiencing at the same time! Days may go by without my reading your blog, and then I will and wham! I'll say to myself "I can't believe he wrote about that! That (or something similar) was what I was just experiencing/thinking/writing!
Thanks for putting your thoughts and words "down on paper" so eloquently!
Blessings,
Liora Leah
