  • Sorry, Mother Nature   by  greggechols     19 y     2,921       4 Messages Shown       Blog: Dreaming Alive

    The world languishes and withers,
The heavens languish together with the earth.
The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants,
For they have transgressed the laws,
Violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.
—Isaiah 24:4-5, from Fox, The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, p. 86)

So, even the Bible talks about humanity destroying the planet. Now I see how nature Herself is asking humankind to awaken, to come out of his slumber and realize the destruction he is causing Her. Perhaps the “new paradigm” which began in the 1960’s is being enlarged in this first decade of the new millennium to catapult man beyond simple awareness and, instead, into action.

Maybe the counterculture revolution of the ‘60’s was part of a movement by Nature to awaken humanity to the reality of what the industrial revolution is doing to the planet. Maybe Her introduction of new social movements was Her way of providing a source for humankind to listen.

Yet, we are still in the land, in a world, where human says they are mightier than nature. There are many who believe that, indeed, humanity was put on Earth to rule over Nature. Ask the energy behind hurricanes, earthquakes, and tsunamis if this is, indeed, true.

Only human beings would come up with laws that would go against nature. The Western patriarchy decided women should not breast feed because it is unsafe for the woman. Here’s a beautiful example of humanity, man/womankind—the only creature on the planet that decides its children should not receive the milk of its mother. Instead, the children of Man/Woman should receive the milk of another animal.

Imagine mother cows feeding their calves with the milk of human beings! Just imagine all of nature acting in this way towards their newborn!

On another realm, imagine the indignity thrust upon Mother Earth when humanity decides what She produces is harmful and illegal. Mother Earth provides an abundance of crops and sustenance for its creatures, and one of them—the four-legged human—regulates that Mother Earth is providing harmful plants that should not be used. They’re illegal!

The only myth that is going to be worth thinking about in the immediate future is one that is talking about the planet—not the city, not these people, but the planet and everybody on it. That’s my main thought for what the future myth is going to be.
    —Joseph Campbell

“The entire universe is in a state of vibration, and each thing generates its own frequency, which is unique,” writes Masauru Emoto in The Hidden Messages in Water. The human being is in a unique position, and living the myth of saving the planet is and should be humanity’s ultimate goal at this time.

Humans are the only creatures that have the capacity to resonate with all other creatures and objects found in nature. We can speak with all that exists in the universe. We can give out energy and also receive energy in return…the defiling of our earth is the result of an unrelenting hunger for convenience and the fulfillment of greed, initiated by the industrial revolution (Emoto, p. 51).

The consciousness of man—if realized—is that of a Divine/Human nature. We contain the seeds within us of the Cosmic Christ. We are that. If we allow ourselves to fulfill our destinies and experience that truth, we can then live from the dual role and begin to protect and restore nature to her vital self.

Thanks for your curiosity! I am 42 and live in Santa Monica, after spending most of my life in Texas, where I was born and raised. I was a newspaper editor and reporter in my teens and twenties, and later a businessman. I returned to college to complete my undergradute degree in psychology and Art History four years ago. A new chapter in my life began two years ago when I started graduate school. For that first year of school, I would fly out here to Los Angeles once a month to attend classes for three days. After doing this for a year, I decided hey--the beach and sun and beautiful people are too good to pass up. I'll move out here! So I did that a year ago. I've loved living here and am grateful to have this opportunity.

I am working on a Ph.D in Depth Psychology. I work with dreams, and am working on a school project now involving ritual, ceremony, and community participation in ceremony and ritual. I have spent time in Brasil during the last two years, and love the culture of Central and South America, along with Mexico. Give me a good Carnival and Samba any day!

It is my intention to involve myself with this community of amazing people who are sharing their experiences...by contributing my own thoughts, experiences, writings, dreams, and on and on. I feel what I'm writing in the space of my own journals seeks the light of day, and what an amazing space for just that. Thank you!

I hope this helps. More will be forthcoming, for sure, but I'm living a simple life here in Southern Cal, tuning in to the great vibes you and others are sending out through your own work.

        Thank you,

        Gregg
