  • My 3rd and 4th Craniosacral Therapy Sessions   by  Alternliving     18 y     6,181       2 Messages Shown       Blog: Craniosacral Therapy
It has been a while now since I finished doing craniosacral therapy (about a year and a half). I was a little disappointed with my therapist, ultimately, since she did not seem to take the approach of one who considers craniosacral therapy a modality with permanent results. Rather than recommend to me the total number of sessions I should do and rather than track my progress from session to session, she regarded the therapy as similar to massage. She said that if I was feeling better then I should stop coming for a while, "especially," she said, "with the better weather coming up." I think this is a mistake, since it has been demonstrated that craniosacral therapy can cure illnesses after a quantifiable sequence of sessions. Many people in the field, including, I believe, John Upledger, also claim that people need a proscribed number of sessions to achieve the full benefit of craniosacral therapy, which, they claim, is finite. Also, these people claim that if you stop in the middle of a progressive sequence, the effects dissipate and are not permanent. So, I sort of stopped the craniosacral therapy haphazardly.

The therapy, however, was very beneficial for me. It really helped my energy levels, which is a great thing for me, since I suffer from schizophrenia, which for a while was accompanied by clinical depression, just to give you an idea of how bad the energy levels have been. I have also suffered from anxiety for a while now, and at the time of these sessions, I was continuing to have problems with it. It helped that too, though. I guess because my energy levels have stayed better since the therapy that you could say that some of the effects have been permanent, and so maybe it's hard to say what's permanent and what's not with this therapy, but I was just really disappointed that there was no monitored, marked healing progression that took place, with a definite end point. I could have continued the therapy, just to make sure I got the permanent effects of it, but sometimes that's hard when you and your therapist are not on the same page. I guess I could have pressed the permanency issue with my therapist, but I did not.

I don't recall many details of the third and fourth sessions, but these are my general impressions. I think I had the strongest energy releases in one of the first two sessions, if my memory serves me correctly, which is actually part of the reason that I stopped. I figured I had gone far enough, with fewer results in the third and fourth sessions, and since I, inexperienced as I am, was the one judging my progression, I stopped.
