  • Kidney Stones: Aloe Vera   by  RisingSun     18 y     40,971       6 Messages Shown       Blog: Aloe Vera Research Blog
In my research, I have not come across a great deal of specific information regarding aloe vera juice and kidney stones. However, because it is such an effective demulcent, coating and nourishing the body's membranes and tissues, internally and externally, it has been used for that purpose for other internal irritating diseases such as colitis and Crohn's disease, and Ayervedic medicine has a history of using it as a tonic/demulcent for the liver. Therefore, it seems reasonable to assume that it would be an herb of choice to act as a tonic demulcent to help pass kidney stones with less pain and to nourish the cells of the area.Because it is such a strong blood circulation stimulant, it should be avoided during pregnancy because it could create contractions. Also, becuase it is such a cooling herb, it should not be used by people with weak, watery symptoms or general tendency to body coolness.

I do not usually come across tea recipes, but more of a gel with water or gel with apple juice combination or turned into a wine tincture. The dosage that Tierra recommends is 2 teaspoons gel mixed in apple juice or water 3 times a day. She also mentions steeping 1/2 to 1 teaspoon powdered root in a cup of boiling water, but warns that it has a "nauseating" taste.

Other demulcents commonly named in the treatment for helping to pass kidney stones with less trauma include: hydrangea root, marshamallow root, slippery elm, corn silk, and carrot seed.

Anti-lithic herbs, which help to break up accumulated gravel or stones in the body include: gravel root, uva ursi, and couch grass root.

Diuretics used include parsley and pipsissewa.

Antimicrobials and immunity-system strengtheners include echinacea, golden seal, and myrhh.

Herbs used for the general health of the liver and kidneys include dandelion root, burdock root, cleavers and, especially for the kidneys, nettle.

If you have kidney stones now:

Every 30 minutes, drink 8 ounces of water with the juice of half a lemon. Alternate lemon with fresh apple juice if desired.

Aloe Vera juice can help reduce the size of a stone during an acute attack and help prevent stone formation.

Uva Ursi herb helps relieve pain and bloating.
