There has been an amazing thing happening in South America in the past decade - they have gotten out from under America's thumb!! For 4 or 5 decades the covert US agents were stopping South Americans from electing the government that the people wanted, thwarting democracy at every turn. In recent years Latin American nations have managed to keep their chosen leaders out of the line of American firepower and have elected socialist governments.... as they had done in the first half of the 20th C until America stopped it.
"America, the great defender of democracy"? - It would be a joke if it were not so tragically bloody.
The School of the Americas ["SOA,"] renamed as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation in 2001, run by the US army, has trained military and police since the 1940s... the majority of the dictatorships, disappearances, and coups [in Latin America] have been organised by SOA graduates.
Since it was founded, the SOA has trained over 61,000 Latin American soldiers in combat techniques, military intelligence, and torture techniques.
And of course the CIA and the DEA used the War on Drugs as cover to finance the operations in South America, with illegal drug money.
This is the best example of how wrong it has been to say "conspiracy theorists are total nutballs, if something like that happened it would be all over the news" - well it is still not on the news but the facts of the conspiracy to stop the will of South American voters, financed with drug money and trained by the SOA, are now absolutely verifyable.
PS - South American nations are getting a divorce from the War on Drugs lately - in Venezuela the drug seizures and imprisonments of high level drug barons have quadrupled since the Venezualan police kicked out the Americans and are now doing it themselves. They claim it is a lot easier to police the drug trade without Americans protecting the criminals. I bet it is!!

| The socialist leaders in Argentina and Venezuela have bled the middle class dry and left the countries divided and in crisis. I could blow up and make fun of your retoric..but seriously just wait a year for the full effects of the socialism. It created misery and poverty, a brain drain. They called the rest of the world totalitarian and kept their illuminati handlers content by establishing regimes of control in south america. If it's so awesome, then come down here and live it for a day.

The slavery that the people in Venezuela and Argentina are under with exchange controls....they are slaves to banks.
Also in Argentina, what the government is openly allowing monsanto to do is genocide. They've robbed their people peniless and over the past decade made sure to create an agriculture system to send soy to china and leave the stores at home without bread. What is unfolding now with the riots is the beginning of something as ugly as the irish potato famine. millions of people are dependent on a nazi style economic system that will collapse. They are slaves to banks and their leaders instead of being colonized by england.

But what was it like BEFORE?? Killing squads, dead socialists everywhere as USA sponsored militias fought against a fair election??
And why do people continue to support Chavez until his death?
Hey, now that I think about it - you might be an American Apologist!! Were you trained at the School of the Americas by any chance?
I think I will need more than your words to believe you. Sp many people say it is better....
Perhaps you are of the Elite class who only wants to believe you were middle class so you could justify having so much while the others went without?
If the middle class is being bled dry, are the poor doing better? Would you agree that is better to help the poor rather than maintain a small middle class?

Or is it that Kirchner PAID OFF the IMP debt, and you would rather continue growing beyond $93 BILLION in debt to the IMF? They were taking 10% of your GDP every year!!!
What would you do different? - there had to be some pain to the upper and middle classes to get the economy fixed... and so you, Anthony, paid the price for the former governments mistakes.
Besides, the VOTE was held, and the people elected, and then re-elected, the socialist government. Maybe you don't like the result, but it is the choice of the majority, and it was a wide majority if I remember correctly.
Monsanto is evil. I agree with you there, but in fact it was the WEALTHY landholders of the southern Pampas that spread Monsanto's seeds. The Government did sit back and do nothing, that is true, but you can be sure that Monsanto was pulling some strings and pressuring the government. Then came the announcement that Monsanto would pull out of Argentina, and we saw the devious plans unfolding....
This is unfortunate indeed Anthony - but our enemy is MONSANTO and not socialism or the government.

I would ask you to watch all of cristina's insane speeches or hear from real argentines about what happens when she decides all dollars..aka money in the country are hers. This ridiculous class system right left argument u make is a joke when she left the treasury empty and fled yesterday. The middle class will be hungry...the lower classes receiving the payments from the chavismo and cristina for food that you mention WILL BE LEFT TO DIE. Stop being so jaded and look what is unfolding..It's dollars and cents..thats why now it's finally hitting the wall street news...a financial class will get rich off this..and the middle class you blame is left with nothing. The ones still left in these countries. Not the mechanic garage owners, tire factory owners, decent people. White, black, latino, that left because what was THEIRS was stolen. So you have no right to say they deserve that...and the fraud that is the latin american left is falling apart.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner - my computer died and I had to replace it. Lucky me to have enough to do that.
I think you are being very one-sided in all this. I am probably wrong to put it all down to "right Vs left" too.
The problems in Venezuela are the same under every leader - the currency is a mess, continuously propped up by loans that have to be paid back, which means the next round is going to have a weak currency.
Venezuela does not produce as much as it imports, keeping the currency weak.

No, Antonio, perhaps I do not understand the Spanish at all. I am Norwegian and Canadian and my ancestors are cold, and cold hearted people.
All I heard is "Spanish feverish temperment" and you surely seem more angry than willing to find solutions. Sorry to say, because that is "discrimination" when we label all of one people by one personality... but look at your passionate displeasure at when I wrote that "great on Venezuela for getting out from under Criminal American Drug War"
Do you WANT the USA War on Drugs to come back to South America? There were many more killed in that war than are being killed in Venezuela protests where the protestors loot all night long!! They don't want nothin' but a fee lunch...

Yes, I agree - what Argentina is allowing Monsanto to do is criminal.
Perhaps we could agree that LEADERS generally get addicted to power and wealth and then corruption takes place. Surely some government people got paid off by Monsanto.

You do have a good point Anthony - the leaders are not to be trusted with the power we give them by our votes. It is actually a rare thing that any leader today is worthy of the power they have.
My point was simply that it is good for South American nations to get out from under the U.S.A.'s influence. One of the best example of that is the War on Drugs, which America exploits in order to advance their agenda of global control. Another big one is the IMF and World Bank loans - conspiring to control the economies [and natural resources] of every nation on earth.
