  • The Juice Fast, Day 19/28   by  disturbance     16 y     3,786       4 Messages Shown       Blog: Juice Fasting for the third time - 28 days
The hectic week has surely taken its toll on me. Today I've been irritable, and yesterday went quite emo. I was able to rationalise myself out of it, for the most part, but it was hard to get to sleep.

The Philosophy entry exams were very difficult, again, but they went definitely better than the Nutrition exams. Unfortunately. However I already know I won't pass this test, either, so now the two remaining exams on English-Finnish translating and intrepreting are my only hope of getting into a University this year. Not that I would be terribly upset about failing - honestly I wouldn't mind having another leisurely year just working and enjoying my time up here in the North, and not having a care in the world about getting myself some stupid education in some über dogmatic, over-zealous institute as they tend to be in this Promised Land of Restricting Norms for All.

I've already set a nice eight-month plan to save enough money to fund University studies in Australia for two years. All I'd need to do then would be applying for a school, and getting a student loan for the last year, unless I manage to save the fee for it during the first two years of studies. I'm not keen on taking a loan of any kind, ever, at all, but in the worst case scenario a €8,000 loan is better than that of €24,000!

So, yeah, yesterday was heaps of fun after the exam, I met three mates from Australia, and bought a cool über-sized star-shaped belt buckle. One of the Aussie mates had just started a five-day fast herself, so it was fun to just sit on a pub patio and sip veggie juice and lemon vater and exchange experiences.
Ohh I just love that city, somehow I very easily get an idea of the atmosphere in any given place, and can't help but base the rest of my evaluations of that first impression - and this city just rocks! The perfect warm weather made the day such a pleasure, although I did wear my long-johns and a sweater even in the sun. I had so much fun I took the very last bus back - it was over a two-and-a-half hour ride so I got home around midnight. No wonder I was moody and down - I hadn't slept enough, travelling does wear anyone out eventually, and I haven't had a proper appetite for juices or broth in ages.

Today I've drank only one and a half bottles of water so far. There has been this funny feeling in my throat for some three days now, almost like there's constantly something caught in there. Flecks, crumbles, or whatever. I keep swallowing and have drank more water now, but I still keep getting the feeling. Either it's me being quite dehydrated (likely), or then something funny is going on (unlikely).

What I really want now is to be able to have an enema even once during this weekend. I just feel like it would be of use.

No mentionable weight loss, I still don't know my weight after starting the fast. I know I've lost my love handles and more from that area, but reckon they'll be back for the most part. I'd really like to see more flattening of my tummy during my last week. To be honest I've thought the bulge is mostly water weight and fasting could bring a solution of some kind, but now I'm at a complete loss of means. I guess it's fat placed in a funny spot for which not much exersize can help. You know just that bit of your lower tummy that so often is photo manipulated in fashion shoots to create that boyish look? Well, I'm of petite figure, but that particular part has this funny big sausage on it! I wish it would've disappeared with the same rate as the love handles have gone, but no. Oh what to do, what to do...

Once again I will be heaps busy this weekend - I'll go see my family in another city for a day (yes! More travelling, even on my free time!), and then come back with probably the rest of my belongings to be brought into my new home. So no rest. But the good news is my salary arrived (although not quite as much of it as I hoped due to me needing to be away), so I've been able to pay some bills, and I'll recharge my travel pass soon. Me, dad and his fiancee are going food and knife shopping before I'll take my long-distance bus, and I'll do my juicing probably on Sunday, since a friend from the other town will be coming back with me to visit. Then on Monday I've got the first set of my translation exams. Phoah! I still keep forgetting things several times a day, just a moment ago I had put a customer on hold without actually addressing where the call was going, and when it returned to me I couldn't remember where he had wanted to be connected. Embarrassing. I'm sure this is simply a combination of too much stress and not eating, so it'll pass in a week at the latest.
    I hope.

So, I'm off. I'm most likely to return on Tuesday, Day 23!

Hi Jo, by the time you read this little message you should be finished with your first set of translation exams, and my expectation is that you will do fabulously!

You have an excellent command of the English language and your postings here demonstrate a better grasp of the language than many native born English speakers.

The city you like where you took the tests, was that Helsinki that you said you loved? I ask because while I have been to Europe several times, I have never visited Scandinavia, and some friends and I have been talking about making a trip possibly next Spring or Summer, but haven't finalized on a location.

I enjoy reading your blog because you sound so normal. Not always perfect but always trying, and sticking with it in spite of some difficult times. I think you are a great example for others, since none of us is ever perfect, as much as we would like to be so.

Keep up the good work, best wishes in all that you do,

      Valerie

Thank you once again, Valerie, you're always so caring and positive :)

Yep, the exams were for the Helsinki University, although the translation studies are located in another city for a year.

I'd really recommend Stockholm, if you have the time and financing for only one place up North! Sweden is the most cosmopolitan of all the Nordic countries, and has such a wonderful local culture. Everyone speaks good English over there, and the people are polite and the attractions plentiful.
Helsinki is gorgeous in its own crude way. Lapland would be another place I'd recommend wholeheartedly, it's something one will find nowhere else! The nature is so unspoilt and original!

I'm sure you'd enjoy this part of the world, too! Welcome!
