Det and Exercise Tied to Gallstone Risk

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition January, 1999;69:120-126. Dr.Mercola

Approximately 1 million new cases of gallstones are diagnosed in the United States each year, and as many as 20% of the population over age 40 develop gallstones. The condition strikes women more often than men. A sedentary lifestyle coupled with a diet high in fats and sugar boosts the chances of developing gallstones, while an active lifestyle and low-fat diet appears to protect against them These findings suggest that a sedentary lifestyle and a diet rich in animal fats and refined sugars and poor in vegetable fats and fibers are significant risk factors for gallstone formation.

The results showed that those with gallstones were heavier, more often had diabetes, had more frequent bowel movements and consumed more sugar and saturated fats than their counterparts without gallstones. The survey also revealed that those who were physically active and consumed more monounsaturated fats were less likely to develop gallstones. Noting that the factors associated with gallstones are the same as those associated with heart disease and cancer, the researchers conclude that, preventive strategies aimed
at improving nutrition and increasing physical activity could significantly reduce the major sources of illness and death in our society.

DrMercola COMMENT: This article does not emphasize the fact that of the nearly one million people who develop gallstones each year, most of them have their gallbladders removed. ONE MILLION gallbladders a year are removed. That is criminal. There are few other blatant testimonies of the ignorance of traditional American medicine than this sad fact. Nearly every single one of these gallbladder removals could have been prevented if treated properly.

Clearly, the above article offers some suggestions. Exercise and replacing grains with vegetables will be most helpful. However, that still leaves quite a
few people with symptomatic gallbladder problems. The solution that I have found that works in most of people who still have their gallbladders is whole beets and taurine. These nutrients will serve to thin the bile so one does not have bile sludge in their gallbladder. If the bile is not thick, it can drain and perform its function which is to emulsify fats. Trying to absorb fat
without bile is like trying to wash greasy dishes without soap. It just does not work very well. I use a supplement called Beta TCP by Biotics which has
both of these nutrients in it and a few others. It also works for people with cholesterol levels below 150 which is also a gallbladder problem. My cholesterol level has been as low as 80 which is dangerous. Prior to my
understanding of the gallbladder, I was able to get it up to 130. After I started Beta TCP, my cholesterol went up to 170 after 6 weeks. That is the highest cholesterol I have ever had recorded and I am very grateful. I had been searching for five years to understand how to increase my level and I could not find how to do it. The danger of low cholesterol levels are an increased risk
of cancer and suicide as cholesterol is an essential precursor for steroid hormones.
